about
Former Children Productions, founded in 2015, is the creative child born from the heart and mind of Gabriel Furman. We strive to tell stories that hold up a mirror to the human condition. Raw, real and hilarious all in the truth of the human soul. We play. We create. We are former children.
Gabriel Furman, a native New Yorker from Far Rockaway, Queens, is a multifaceted artist with a diverse range of talents. An award-winning actor, writer, filmmaker and comedian, Gabriel's journey began in the vibrant underground NYC dance scene, where he made a mark as a professional B-Boy and DJ.
Embarking on his film and television career, Gabriel wrote, produced, and starred alongside Academy Award Winner Melissa Leo in the acclaimed short film, MOTHER'S DAY. This project led to notable roles in productions such as HBO’s And Just Like That, NBC’s Law & Order SVU, Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black, CBS’s Blue Bloods, and Netflix’s Daredevil. On stage, he took on compelling roles in The Last Days of Judas Iscariot and Our Lady of 121st, both directed by Academy Award Winner Estelle Parsons.
Gabriel went on to write and produce WONDER, a short film about a young boy's dream of being Wonder Woman for Halloween, winning twenty-one accolades, including Urbanworld’s Audience Award and Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival’s Jury Award. The film also earned recognition for Academy Award consideration, and its success led to licensing by HBO and its streaming platforms. WONDER is currently in development as a series.
In addition, Gabriel co-wrote and starred in the critically acclaimed play, Brother’s Keeper at the Actors Studio in NYC. He is now in the process of developing a feature film based on the play, with Ellen Burstyn attached in a significant role. Gabriel is humbled to make his directorial debut in the short film CLAUD_IA, about a cyber predator who becomes the hunted when he preys on the wrong woman.
As a Lifetime Member of the esteemed Actors Studio, Gabriel resides in New York City with his girlfriend and their puppy.
